I remember a particular day at work. It was an ordinary day: I went to the office and started working on various projects that I needed to complete. All of a sudden, things stopped. The company’s computer network shut down entirely, we were told, so all of our offices had the same problem. The whole company was paralyzed.
We were accorded an extended break because the IT department said the issue could take some time to be fixed. I was quite worried about how I would be able to meet my deadlines, as it is an important thing in the position that I occupy, but when I went outside, all of those worries disappeared in a flash. Going out at an unlikely moment was quite beneficial. A nice change from being bombarded by the office’s fluorescent lighting and the pixels of my computer screen.
While waiting for things to go back to normal, I was secretly hoping that I would get told that I had the rest of the day off. It was nice for the sole reason that it interrupted the flow of things and introduced something out of the ordinary, even though it is human nature to seek stability. I need more moments like this in my life.
